Safeguarding and the Prevent duty

Prince Henry’s Grammar School is fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all students. The school's designated Safeguarding lead is Philip Temple, Assistant Headteacher: Learner Support.

Students develop the skills which they will need to be confident and stay safe in a range of situations, as well as to manage risk effectively, both in school and in the wider world. Vulnerable young people and their families are supported through a commitment to multi-agency, family-centred work, with staff at Prince Henry’s playing a lead role.

SAFEGUARDING STUDENTS FROM EXTREMISM AND RADICALISATION

All schools have a legal duty to protect young people from the risk of radicalisation, and to safeguard them from being drawn into terrorism. This is known as the "Prevent duty". At Prince Henry's we achieve this through:

  • A curriculum which promotes tolerance and respect, teaches about the dangers of extremism in all its forms and builds students' resilience to radicalisation
  • A distinctive school ethos which has a commitment to equality and diversity at its heart
  • Appropriate training for staff and governors
  • Robust web filtering systems to keep students safe online
  • Policies relating to visiting speakers in school, the letting of school premises to external organisations and student participation in off-site activities
  • Support for vulnerable students and clear procedures for referrals
  • Working in partnership with other agencies
