    Curriculum

The curriculum at Prince Henry’s is designed to achieve our vision of becoming an exceptional school with a culture of respect, where we can all flourish and achieve. As a highly successful learning community, which provides sustainable outstanding education for young people of all abilities, we want students to leave Prince Henry’s with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to succeed as responsible global citizens in the 21st Century. Our vision, and consequently our curriculum, is underpinned by our six values:

    • Honesty
    • Kindness
    • Confidence
    • Independence
    • Ambition
    • Resilience

Our curriculum has been planned to closely match the needs of our mixed ability students, who are mainly drawn from the market town of Otley and surrounding areas of north west Leeds.  Our Curriculum Statement can be viewed here

    Key Stage 5

The Sixth Form curriculum is based around students’ course choices at Level 3.  The majority of our courses are academic A-levels with a selected number of small Applied General courses which are the equivalent of one A-level to complement the A-level options.  All of our externally examined courses are selected to give good progression to Higher Education, apprenticeships or employment.

Most students study a core curriculum of three Level 3 courses with the option of four available for students with a track record of academic success.  The wider curriculum built around the core subject choices includes enrichment courses such as Core Maths and the EPQ, the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award and a wide range of modules and non-accredited courses such as First Aid, Sign Language and Mandarin Chinese.  In addition, students take part in a bespoke PSHE programme for Sixth Form which includes life skills, personal finances and career planning.

In addition, students are supported to develop independent learning skills and their curriculum will involve a number of private study periods.  Sixth Form online resources to support independent learning can be found here and links to the whole school curriculum plan which shows how KS5 progresses from the KS3 and 4 courses in each subject can be found here.
